Under The Gun: Chandler Jenkins

This afternoon we headed to the southwestern part of North Carolina for this edition of "Under The Gun" with Chandler Jenkins. Jenkins, who is entering his junior campaign at West Lincoln High School has put in alot of hard work this past offseason in hopes to make a big time impact on the diamond. Chandler Jenkins is a popular name in this part of the state, and is looking to lead his Rebels in the 2013 season.

When did you first begin playing baseball?

I first started playing tee-ball around the age of four.

What are your expectations for West Lincoln High School this year?

My expectations this year are to win the conference and make a really deep run into playoffs.

What was your main focus on this past off-season?

My main focus this off-season was to build my legs up but also to get faster and stronger.

What are your personal goals this season?

My personal goals this season are to make All-Conference again, make 1st Team All-County and to break the saves record at West Lincoln. Also, I would like to cut down on my strikeouts from a year ago. I struck out three times, that’s three times to many!!
 
Who's the best pitcher you have ever faced?

The best pitcher I’ve ever faced was Joe O'Donnell (N.C. State Commit) from Wilmington's Post 10 American Legion. That day he was sitting around 93 mph with a wicked slider.

How do you feel like your game has developed from your sophomore season to your junior season coming up?

I feel like I have developed more mentally, physically, and mechanically from my sophomore season to my up-coming junior season.
 
What is your most memorable game up to this point of your career?

The most memorable game I've had to this point in my career was in American Legion with Cherryville Post 100. I hit the game tying Homerun in the seventh inning of the semifinal game in the American Legion State Tournament against Caldwell Post 29. That homerun rallied our team to win the ballgame 5-2.

What's your favorite high school ball park, you have played in?

No doubit it's Shelby High School, their stadium is unreal!!
 
What's one fact people don't know about Chandler Jenkins?

Most people don't know that I play the guitar.

What's the best advice you were ever given?

To go all-out every play, play the game the way it was meant to be played, and keep it fun.
 
What athlete do you admire and look up to?

I have a lot of respect for Josh Hamilton. I look up to him because of the way he plays the game and all the success and adversity he has had in his life, his faith in the good Lord and his story really inspires me.
 
What are your hobbies outside of baseball?

My hobbies outside of baseball are fishing, basketball, playing the guitar, hanging out with my friends and going to watch baseball games.

My favorite website has to be Youtube because I am always watching music videos.

What's your favorite television show?

My favorite television shows are Intentional Talk on MLB Network, Sportscenter and the original Two and a Half Men.

What are your plans this upcoming summer?

My plans this upcoming summer is to play with the Dirtbags again and to continue to get better every day. Hopefully, I will be able to commit to a college to fullfill my dream of playing college baseball.
