Impact Baseball sat down with Mr. Nathan Hood on this Wednesday morning for his "Under The Gun" interview. Nathan is coming off a 2012 2A State Championship at Whiteville High School and looks to lead the troops back into the playoff in his senior season. Hood has high expectations for this spring and looks to improve his game on and off the field before landing at North Carolina State University in 2014.
Name: Nathan Hood
High School: Whiteville
College Commitment: NC State
What are your goals for your senior year?
My main goal is to be physically bigger, faster, and stronger than I have been in the past and just play hard every time I step on the field and let the rest take care of itself.
What is your best memory of playing with the Dirtbags?
My best memory would probably be playing in the elite eight down in Ft. Myers, Florida the fall of our 16 year old year. We ended up losing, but the atmosphere that Hammond Stadium provided and the energy our team played with is something I will never forget.
What are you doing to get yourself ready to play at the next level?
I've mainly been working on speed and flexibility because I feel like that's that area I need to improve most in, but I've also been trying to build arm strength and hitting a lot as well.
What is your best tool?
I think my best tool is definitely my bat.
What should fans expect if they are coming to watch Whiteville play this year?
Fans can expect a very young but talented team that will be probably rough around the edges at the beginning of the season, but will make great improvements as the season progresses.
Who’s Whiteville's biggest rivalry on the diamond?
I would have to say North Brunswick. We always play each other really close and competitively each year. Our games also tend to have a lot of energy and tension.
What is your approach when getting into the batter’s box?
I just try to keep it simple and stay relaxed, be quick, and hit the ball where it's pitched.
What are your hobbies outside of baseball?
My hobbies outside of baseball are any kind of hunting and mainly duck hunting…
Who’s the best player you have ever played with?
Favorite television show?
"With men this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible." -Matthew 19:26
Deer back straps, collards, and corn bread flitters.
Below, I am going to name some names, describe in one word what comes to mind when you hear their respected names:
Michael Jordan: Winner
Derek Jeter: Greatest
Coach Phil Maier: Knowledgable
Logan Koch: Brother
