Under The Gun: Turner Brown
Written by Trey Daly

Today we travel to Whiteville High School for this edition of "Under The Gun" with the future East Carolina Pirate Turner Brown. In 2012, Brown was on the 2A State Championship team as a freshman. Mr. Brown is a very smooth, crisp middle infielder who is fun to watch on the diamond. The sophomore has high hopes and expectations for the 2013 Whiteville Wolfpack club who are looking to defend their crown.

Name: Turner Brown
High School: Whiteville High School
Position: Middle Infielder
Graduation: 2015
College Commitment: East Carolina University
Describe how it felt winning the 2A state championship in 2012 as a freshman in high school?

It was a dream I have always had. My dad even told me when I was little that one day he hoped I would have the opportunity to win a state championship. But, to do it my freshman year was awesome.

What have you focused on improving from your freshman year?

I am really focusing on getting stronger, adding some pop in my bat and gaining more arm strength. I’m also really focused on getting faster and quicker with my feet.

What are your personal goals this upcoming season?

My goal is to have a solid high school season both on the defensive side as well as the offensive side and help lead my team deep into the playoffs.
Who is the best player you have ever played with?

The best player I have ever played with is Braxton Davidson. He can flat out rake.

What are your plans for this upcoming summer?

This summer I am looking forward to getting back with my Dirtbag family and playing a lot of baseball.

What is your most memorable game in your young career?

One of the most memorable games that come to mind was this past summer playing with the Dirtbags. Our 15U team (2015 graduates) were playing in the 17U (2013 graduates) World Series at Elon University against a team from Virginia. We were down 9-3 going into the last inning; Coach Daly called us together and told us as a group” if we can get a couple men on, we are going to make this interesting”. I lead off with a bunt single, followed by Eric Jenkins and Brandon Riley singling behind me. All of a sudden we tied the score at 9 with Bobby Hampton on third with two outs and they made a pitching change. They brought in their ace left hander who was throwing cheddar, strike one, strike two, ball one. All of a sudden on the next pitch the pitcher never made Bobby stop at third and he stole the plate to win it 10-9 which put us in the playoffs as a 15U team. That game I will never forget, being around some of my best friends while playing with the Dirtbags.

What are your hobbies outside of playing baseball?

I love to play golf, shoot basketball and hang out with my friends.

What is your favorite sport beside baseball?

My favorite sport besides baseball is probably golf.

What is your favorite food?

Steak and Chicken

What is your favorite show on ESPN?
